In October, Hilton announced the opening of its first property on Sal Island, Cape Verde.  Cape Verde is located just off the west coast of Africa, approximately 670 kilometres (or 420 miles by air) from Dakar, Senegal.

Sal is the fifth most populated of the country’s 10 islands, with an estimated population of around 32,000 (2015).  The main town on the island, Cidade dos Espargos, is home to the nation’s main international airport – Amilcar Cabral International Airport, the hub for the national airline TACV.

Hilton’s resort property was developed at Santa Maria beach, on Sal Island, and the features include:

  • 241 Guestrooms and suites,
  • 1,000 square metres of flexible meetings and events space,
  • Bounty Beach Club,
  • 24-hour fitness center,
  • Kids club with a children’s pool,
  • Nautical center,
  • Casino,
  • Beauty salon,
  • Hilton’s signature eforea Spa concept with  wet area and eight treatment rooms,
  • Four dining options.

Commenting on the opening, Rudi Jagersbacher, President, Middle East & Africa, Hilton, said:  “The opening of Hilton’s first property in Cape Verde is a prime example of the brand’s commitment to expanding its presence in the divers and exciting destinations that matter the most to travelers.”

Cape Verde has the second largest hotel pipeline in West Africa, with approximately 3,500 hotel rooms planned or currently under construction.
