Bench Events, the organizers of the annual Africa Hotel Investment Forum (AHIF), have announced that this year’s conference will return to the Radisson Blu Kigali Convention Center, hosted by the Rwanda Development Board.   It will be held October 11 – 12, 2017.  As with 2016, the event will run alongside AviaDev, a similar development event for the African aviation community.

The event brings together key players in the Africa hotel industry.  Last year’s speaker roster included representatives from major global and regional hotel groups, investors, management companies, tourism and development boards, consultants and other experts.  In attendance were more than 500 industry professionals from 45 countries, with the majority coming from within Africa.  22 new deals and hotel projects were announced by hotel brands including AccorHotels, Best Western, Carlson Rezidor, CityBlue, Hilton and Marriott.  And Marriott also took the opportunity to launch its Kigali Marriott.

The return of the AHIF and AviaDev serves as a boost to Rwanda’s image as a major regional MICE market.  Rwanda hosted other major international conferences in 2016 including the World Economic Forum on Africa, the African Union Summit, and the Global Africa Investment Summit.  In 2017, Kigali is already scheduled to host eighteen major regional events including the Transform Africa Summit, the Afreximbank Annual General Assembly, and the AORTIC International Conference on Cancer in Africa.
