The Radisson Blu Bishoftu will be located in a growing Meetings, Incentives, Conference and Events (MICE) and leisure destination of the country.  Bishoftu is approximately 50 kilometres (30 miles) southeast of Addis Ababa, the capital.  The town is along the Addis Ababa – Adama Expressway, and just over an hour’s drive to center of Addis Ababa and to Bole Airport.  The project site is a 14,000 sq km plot on the shoreline of the Lake Babogaya.  The project will be well positioned to take advantage of the existing and potential MICE and leisure demand with its extensive meeting and events facilities, and lakefront views  The proposed hotel was designed by the South Africa-based Capital Creative Group.  This will be the first internationally branded hotel in Ethiopia, outside of Addis Ababa.

The project is owned by a consortium of five parties, led by Adulita Conference and Spa Resort Hotel PLC, and is expected to be completed by 2020.

The Park Inn by Radisson will be located along the main artery linking the Addis Ababa city center to the international airport.  The Park Inn is designed as a fresh, energetic mid-market hotel brand with competitive pricing.

The project is owned by local investor, Anchenesh Tesfaye, and is expected to be completed in 2019.  The new Park Inn by Radisson Addis Ababa will join other similarly branded midscale hotels, already operating on the continent, in markets such as Nairobi, Libreville, Kigali, Tete (Mozambique) and Abeokuta (Nigeria).

Addis Ababa is sometimes referred to as the “political capital of Africa”, and hosts the African Union headquarters, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and numerous diplomatic missions and embassies.  The management agreement for both projects were negotiated by OZZIE Business & Hospitality Group (who were also instrumental in negotiating a deal for a Movenpick Hotel in Addis Ababa earlier in 2017), according to Capital Ethiopia.

Other recent branded hotel deals announced for Ethiopia include a 180-room Hyatt Regency Addis Ababa,  a 165-room Protea Hotel by Marriott Addis Ababa, a 252-room Movenpick Addis Ababa, and three Accor branded hotels in Addis Ababa totalling 527 rooms.  These projects are expected to come into the operation between 2018 and 2021, bringing more than 1,400 internationally-branded hotels rooms into supply.
