On Tuesday 7th March 2023, Agility Logistics Park (ALP) launched four new data centre sites which can host data centres in Kuwait, Egypt, Ghana, and Saudi Arabia;

In addition to the above, ALP also announced plans to open more data centres sites in other rapidly growing markets including Nairobi Kenya, Casablanca-Morocco, and Lagos-Nigeria. Currently, the industrial developer has a presence in the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa, with a total of 1.5 mn sq ft of warehousing facilities, and 12.0 mn sqm of industrial land spread across twelve countries.

ALP’s move comes at a time when various emerging markets are witnessing an increasing need for quality data centres, particularly environmentally friendly and cost-effective facilities, owing to the rapidly growing population and changing consumer consumption patterns. Key to note is that e-commerce continues to strongly take shape in these markets, coupled with the rapid demand for ICT and internet services, hence the need for well-established logistics facilities. Moreover, various tech giants have been tapping into these markets while looking to further increase their footprint which therefore necessitates the need for more data centres.

Some of the data centres in Africa include NBO1 Data Centre in Nairobi-Kenya, Lagos LOS1 in Nigeria, and CPT1 Data Centre in Cape Town-South Africa, among others. In terms of performance, South Africa and Nigeria are the largest data centre markets in Africa, respectively.
