The past few months have been particularly busy for the ei Team as we spent our time sharing key insights and thought leadership reports at events across the continent. Here’s a quick rundown of the key themes and relevant insights shared.

 

Sustainable real estate in Africa

We presented at the African Union for Housing Finance (AUHF) 2022 event in Cairo, discussing COP27, and sustainable building trends while showcasing a mini report on our 2022 African Green Building Factsheet.

 

Tech and Innovation in real estate across Africa

At the 8th edition of the West African Property Investment Summit in Lagos, we spoke on Opportunities, Obstacles & Solutions: Proptech and the West Africa Real Estate Market. It’s an exciting time to be speaking on PropTech as over $16m had been raised in the year so far. Though small, it’s 5x what we saw in 2021. If you’d like to understand more about African PropTech, here’s a presentation we gave during API in September.

Our team in Accra spoke at Tech in Ghana 2022 conference, a UK-Ghana platform that is dedicated to strengthening and showcasing Ghana’s tech ecosystem. During the session, we talked about Estate Intel bridging the gap between individuals and the real estate industry by providing market insights across multiple African cities. 

Capital and deal flow across West Africa real estate

On the capital markets side, we presented key facts on the Direction of Capital Flows in West African real estate. As we speak, over 3 institutional players are raising capital via IPO for their real estate income funds or real estate investment trusts. You can download our presentation here.

Real Estate Regulation in Nigeria

Finally, in the last few days of the month, our Insights Team also participated on a panel at the 2nd year anniversary event of the Female Real Estate Lawyers in Real Estate Practice. During the session, one of the special advisers to the Lagos State Governor spoke about how the introduction of the LASRERA law and the real estate agent directory was going to help curb fraudulent practices in the industry.

We recently released a new edition of our Monthly Project Notification report after getting some feedback from clients. You can check out the Accra edition for last month here. We share monthly updates for Lagos and Nairobi too and curated editions that either only focus on very early conceptual projects or projects that are nearing completion. This December we are particularly excited about applying some of the learnings from the Google for Startups program that wrapped up this month. A few changes to how we price and structure Estate Intel are coming in the new year. We’ll keep you posted!
