The Chinese Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) has stated that they have received a provisional letter approving their bid to build a 4 line light Rail system in Kano state in the Northwest area of Nigeria. The project is said to cost about $1.851bn (N589.5bn) while the rail line is expected to cover a distance of 74.3 kilometres carrying a train travelling at about 100km/h. According to the CRCC, this is an equivalent of going from Lagos to Ibadan in 72 minutes.

The CRCC has stated that the construction plan are split into two stages, where the first stage will last about two years and the second stage lasting another two years. No details for a commencement date were released.
