With less than 1,000 new additions to supply in 2021, the year marked slow progress for the hospitality industry in Lagos. This was further exacerbated by most projects remaining on hold for over the past three years despite Lagos featuring among the top 5 cities in Africa with the highest hospitality development pipeline in Africa at over 3,000 keys.
Key completions recorded included; the completion of the 251 key Marriott Hotel, which has been under construction for over 6 years. The hotel will help the brand regain its footing in Ikeja after two other hotels owned by Avalon Intercontinental in the area, were branded as Radisson Group Hotels.
New supply over the next few years is limited. However, a couple of notable projects expected include;the Four Seasons in Ikoyi, Novotel in Victoria Island and a new Ibis Hotel in Lekki Phase 1.
Other top hotel projects expected include:
- Four Seasons Hotel
- Hyatt Regency Ikeja
- Novotel Hotel
- Emerald Grand Hotel & Spa
- Chelsea Group Hotel
- Art Hotel, and
- Lagos Airport Hilton Hotel
Though a slight recovery was seen during the year, the general hospitality market outlook remains negative, with occupancy levels remaining low at 55%.
