The Pearl of Africa Hotel officially opened in the Nakasero Hill district of Kampala, Uganda on October 1st.  The hotel was developed by the AYA Investment Group, reportedly at a cost of US$300 million. Construction started on the property in 2006 and was completed in June 2017, after many missed deadlines, administrative, and funding issues including a failed agreement with Hilton to operate the hotel.  The hotel was signed with Carlson Rezidor Group to brand the property as a Quorvus Collection in January 2017.

The development was built on a 14 acre (5.7 hectare) site that was previously occupied by the national television station. The 20-storey hotel will be powered by solar energy, generator and the national hydro grid.

The hotel will be managed by South African-based Sovereign Hotels, who also manage seven other hotels in Kenya and South Africa, including EKA Hotel Nairobi and Swahili Beach Resort Diani Beach.
