In our last article about co-working spaces, we explored the co-working spaces on the Lagos mainland, and found a concentration of these spaces in Ikeja. In this follow up article, we review current co-working spaces in Lagos Island, focusing on areas in Victoria Island, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos Island, Oniru and Ikoyi.
According to coworker.com, the total number of co-working spaces in Lagos are 97, and Lagos Island covers more than 30% of the spaces. The funnel chart below shows the count of the spaces in each area, in descending order:
Victoria Island tops the list, having a count of 17 co-working spaces, which is more than Ikeja, the highest on the mainland which had 14 in number. Even though the total count of co-working spaces on the mainland exceeds those on the Island, the average number of co-working spaces found in each area is more on the Island than on the mainland with a difference of up to 5.5 coworking spaces per area. This is potentially attributed to the wider coverage of the Lagos mainland.
In terms of facilities, these coworking spaces feature a wide range of extra facilities compared to the traditional workspace. Some of these facilities include: gaming rooms, onsite restaurants, podcasting/sound recording rooms, event spaces, conference rooms, and even co-living accommodation for a few as illustrated below.
With the tech industry growing and more start-ups coming up, co-working space providers have seen a need for expansion. Some of the coworking providers that are backing this trend with more than one location on the Island include:
- Regus – Mulliner Tower, Ikoyi and Africa Reinsurance House, Victoria Island, The Waterside, Lekki, and Landmark Towers, Oniru.
- 989 coworking spaces – Standard Chartered HQ Building, Victoria Island, Lakepoint Towers, Banana Island, Maison Fahrenheit, Victoria Island, Grandeur, Oniru, and Lighthouse Bar and Grill, Lekki Phase 1.
- 33b Workspaces in Lekki Phase 1 and Victoria Island
