Copia Global, a fast-growing online FMCG distributor operating in the US and Kenya has signed a long-term lease with Africa Logistics Properties (ALP) for 4,500 sqm of its flagship logistics and distribution complex in Tatu Industrial Park, Kenya. ALP announced the deal via a press release on February 6, 2018.
The 50,000 sqm complex, which is still under construction, will enable Copia boost its delivery capacity and ability to provide a unique shopping service to its agent network across the regions. It is scheduled for completion in September 2018. In Q3 last year, Forwarders Solutions Ltd (FFS) also leased 14,000 sqm in a deal that was reported to be the largest industrial lease signed to date in Kenya.
The project is situated at Rendeavour’s Tatu Industrial Park, a 457 acres urban development project located to the North of Nairobi, 5km from exit 11 on Thika Superhighway and 3km from both the Northern and Eastern bypasses.
Tim Steel, CEO of Copia Global said; “We are very excited to be relocating our fulfilment centre operation to ALP North Logistics Park. The facility is ideally located for us and our suppliers and perfectly suited for us.”
According to Toby Selman CEO of ALP: “Copia has a fast-growing business model serving the rural regions of Kenya with FMCG products. By operating from Nairobi’s first grade-A logistics distribution complex, it will gain a significant competitive advantage, benefitting from lower supply chain costs per pallet, and ultimately benefitting Kenyan consumers.”
Plans for ALP’s second project, ALP West, is also underway. The project kicked off with developers building the road network to the 49-acre site and delivery of the first phase of the 100,000 sqm facility is slated for Summer 2019.
