The impact of the coronavirus on the commercial real estate (CRE) market has been noteworthy. With mandatory shutdowns in activity in accordance with lockdown measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus, we see, as expected, a slowdown in activity in key CRE sectors, with some (retail and hospitality) hit more than others. At the start of the year, the market looked promising and poised for notable activity in the leasing and capital markets. However, since then, we have seen market players adopting a wait-and-see approach, at best, in response to the health and economic shocks brought on by the pandemic.
