Summary

The impact of the coronavirus on the commercial real estate (CRE) market has been noteworthy. Retail remains one of the hardest hit sectors following the mandatory lockdown procedures instituted in the country. The cumulative effect of negative shocks to earnings and consumption and more so the inability to trade on the part of retailers orchestrated a domino effect of vulnerable retailer cash flow positions and therefore limited capacity to meet rental obligations.
