Nigeria went through uncertain times in 2017, heightened by a blanket of silence from Aso Rock over the health of President Muhammadu Buhari and macro-economic policies that did not promote free-market exchanges, such as the foreign exchange control that turned out to be counterproductive. The microeconomy suffered as a result. Many companies downsized and laid off staff members. Other companies closed shop and left Nigeria.
