Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund and Inter-Afrique holdings, a Ghanian based investment firm, are currently in the process of building a 363-key dual hospitality development in Accra. This joint venture operating under an SPV known as Platinum Properties Limited will bring to fruition the establishment of the first Pullman Hotel in Ghana, which has a presence in other African countries such as Cote d’Ivoire and Ethiopia. The project which broke ground in Q4:2018 is set to be completed in 2021 and will feature 214 hotel rooms, with a further 149 spaces being used for short let apartments.
The site for this hotel is located in Accra Airport City, along the Airport Bypass road, positioning the brand to take advantage of the increasing business and tourist activity as a result of Ghana’s status as a top destination for FDI in Africa according to a PWC report.
Accor Hotels and Marriott International are leading the way in terms of establishing a stronger presence on the African continent with 75,000 keys in 401 hotels currently in their pipeline, according to a report by W Hospitality Group. Hilton and The Radisson group, both also prominent global hotel brands are not too far behind with 20,000 keys set to be completed in the coming years. These figures represent a 1.5% decrease compared to the African hospitality industries 2018 pipeline numbers.
Mövenpick Hotel which was completed in 2011 (purchased by Quantum Global Group in 2016) along with Ibis Styles hotel are also part of the Accor Hotel brand portfolio that currently have a presence in Ghana.
As part of the confirmed project team, Paragon Group a South African based design firm who have previously designed projects such as Jardim Zoológico, Maputo and Norton Rose Fulbright’s tower, Johannesburg. Arup Engineering, a London based firm are carrying out multidisciplinary engineering services on the development.
