Africa Data Centres (ADC), a renowned data center provider in Africa, has broken ground for its second data center facility in Cape Town, South Africa. This event is taking place just less than two weeks after the company announced the ground breaking of its new Sameer facility in Nairobi. This followed the expansion announcement by ADC in Q4 2022 of its already existing Sameer facility to 15 MW load. According to ADC, this would see an initial build of 5MW of IT load and will be built in the company’s leading-edge modular design.

The new Cape Town data center facility will have a 20 MW capacity, and 12,000 sqm white space/space available for lease. According to ADC, the facility’s construction has begun and is scheduled for completion mid-2024.

This is not the only data center completion that South Africa is set to expect mid-2024. In a previous article we published, we noted that Equinix and Vantage Data centers announced their expansions into South Africa. Both Equinix’s JN1 data center and Vantage’s JNB2 data center are also expected to be completed at the same time.

According to Hardy Pemhiwa, Group President & CEO of Cassava Technologies: “This second data center facility in Cape Town increases the number of our data centers in South Africa to four and is part of our investment program to deliver an additional ten data centers in Africa….”

This news brings excitement to the South African data center market, with its pipeline set to increase by more than 40 MW.

In addition to the newly announced data centers, other data center facilities that have been built by ADC are:

  • LOS1 Data Center in Lagos
  • NBO1 Data Center in Nairobi
  • CPT1 Data Center in CapeTown
  • JHB 1 Midrand Data Center in Johannesburg and
  • JHB 2 Samrand Data Center in Johannesburg.
