The African Data Centre LOS1 is an initiative of African Data Centres (ADC) and a joint venture development with Gateway Real Estate Africa, located in Eko Atlantic City. This unique development is a 10 megawatt data centre proposed to have 6 data halls with 6000sqm of white space. The project will occur in three tier phases and the first phase, developed by Gateway Real Estate Africa under a partnership with African Data Centres (ADC) was recently launched. In an announcement made by Gateway Real Estate, the partnership with ADC makes them the developer and owner of the project while ADC would fully lease back the facility once the construction is completed.

Gateway Real Estate Africa is an international property development company with projects across several countries in Africa, one of which is the GREA Commercial Office, Appolonia CITY, Accra

The facility has a Gross Building Area of c.1,445sqm and a Gross Leasable Area of c.1,078sqm located on a c.4,946 sqm land, which makes it possible for its future expansion to take place, according to Gateway Real Estate Africa. Africa Data centre also confirmed the security of the facility, adding that it is a dedicated, free standing building.

Some of its facilities and services include:

  • Critical IT load of 10.65MW

  • High Rack Density of 20KW

  • Connection to a 24/7 security operations centre and service control centre

  • HVAC,  power, and building critical systems managed 24/7

  • Generator backup, fueled to provide a minimum of 72 hours of backup fuel at full load, backed up by service delivery agreements with diesel vendors.

  • Interconnection of all Africa Data Centre sites across the continents

  • Hot aisle and cold aisle containment done to maintain cooling efficiencies

  • Low pressure gas system installed triggered by double knock detection of fire alarm

  • Colocation: private cage, secured racks, power metering and cross connects.

The African Data Centres LOS1 was launched on November 26, 2021 in Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island. According to Stephane Duproz, CEO of African Data Centres, “this is the first of four data centres that ADC plans to build in Nigeria. There will be another backup centre in Lagos as well as two other data centres in Abuja and Portharcourt.” They have recently announced that it has set aside US $500 million for its expansion in Africa.
