Over the weekend, news broke out of a Nigerian chef and actress, Hilda Baci attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest time spent cooking. A record held by Lata Tandon, an Indian chef based in London and the first woman to achieve this feat after cooking consecutively for 87 hours and 45 minutes. 

Hilda Baci began cooking on Thursday, May 11th, 2023 at Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos. She has, so far, surpassed Lata Tandon’s record in a bid to set her own record of 100 hours of consecutive cooking.

Here are 5 facts you should know about Amore Gardens, the location of this courageous feat:

1. Amore Gardens is part of a multipurpose development located on Zainab Usman street, Lekki Phase 1 in Lagos state. It was developed by Southside Properties and designed by Project Development Team.

 

2. Amore Gardens was completed in March 2022 as the first phase of the Amore multiplex. Once fully complete, the multiplex will feature 4 floors comprising:

•  A terrace lounge and garden, which is the site of the record-breaking feat.
• 280 sqm of office space.
• a 250-seater theater hall of approximately 800 sqm.
• A 550 Banquet seating multipurpose hall with gallery and ancillary spaces which is approximately 1300 sqm.
• A restaurant and 49 parking bays.

 

3. Other members of the project team include:

• Project Development Team as the Main Contractor and Architect, who also worked on R&2 Tower completed in July 2018, and the Ekulo International Limited Project which is currently under construction.
• Dayson Nigeria Limited as the Electrical Engineer who also worked on Landmark Retail Boulevard and R Jolad Hospital Annex.
• Akinwunmi Idowu & Partners as the Quantity Surveyor
• Megawatts Nigeria Limited as the MEP Engineer who also worked on The Quad, A28 Apartments, and 30/32 Apartments.

4. It is one of many locations in which a Guinness record has been attempted in Nigeria, joining:

• The Palms Lekki Mall where PinkiDebbie broke the dance world record for longest time spent dancing by an individual.
• The Akure Stadium where Gbenga Ezekiel broke the record for most skips in a minute on one leg.
• The University of Lagos Cricket Oval where Peter Aho took six wickets for five runs in 3.4 overs against Sierra Leone.
• National Stadium Surulere where Kaffy broke the world record for the longest dance party in 2006.

5. Apart from this World record attempt, Amore Gardens has hosted multiple recreational events within the city, notably the Eat Drink Festival, which was held in December 2022. The Gardens have the capacity to host events with up to 2,000 guests in attendance. It is divided into 3 sections:

• The A-Series garden is the prime of the garden, as such, has been styled purposefully for mid-range garden  events of 500 people or less.
• The B-Series garden is an open air field section of the garden that allows clients to have complete autonomy of their events from ground to design work.
• The VIP Section is an intimate setting for a less crowded setting of less than 200 people. It is situated at the heart of the Garden, in-between both A & B series of the garden.

Amore Gardens also has 4 different lounges to host more intimate and private official/social gatherings.

So far, Hilda Baci has been cooking at Amore Gardens for more than 96 hours, and has smashed the previous record.
