The One Airport Square is an excellent example of architecture and engineering integration because of its sustainable features. It is located in the commercial Airport City of Accra, Ghana and is the first building in Ghana to have been awarded 4-stars (Design stage) by the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA).
It was developed by a joint venture between Actis and Myma Belo Osagie of Boston Investments Limited, a Ghanian national and owner of the land – while Laurus Development Partners was the development manager.
As an eco-friendly building, One Airport Square is designed to use 30% less energy than its peers in Accra – hereby making it one of the only green buildings in the city. The mixed-use project is 17,000sqm in size, comprising of 2,000sqm of retail space and 15,000sqm of office space. It has 250 parking bays.
The 9-floor development was designed by the award-winning sustainability architect, Mario Cucinella while Politecnica Ingegneria e Architettura took part as structural engineer.
Construction was undertaken by Micheletti Ltd., and it took three years to complete (2012 – 2015).
