Swiss-Belhotel International recently signed a second hotel deal with Mukawa (Hotels) Holdings Limited in Kenya to manage its Safari Club Hotel in Nairobi’s city center. As a result, the hotel will be rebranded to ‘Nairobi Safari Club by Swiss-Belhotel’ and fully acquired by Swiss in Q1:2024. This will see it further elevated to Swiss’ standards and consequently give potential clients a new experience. Notably, this comes barely a month after the hotelier acquired its first hotel in Africa dubbed Swiss-Belinn Nairobi, in Kileleshwa.
Safari Club is a 16-floor luxury hotel located along Nairobi’s University Way. It was constructed in 1984 and comprises 146 suites, recreation, and conference facilities:

Swiss’ decision strengthens its presence and confidence in Africa’s emerging markets, while indicating its investment appetite for the Kenyan hospitality market. Interestingly, this is a trend that has been elevating and shaping the sector’s performance over the past five years. For example in July 2022, Actis completed the acquisition of Kenya’s City Lodge Hotels while in August, the Competition Authority Of Kenya (CAK) approved the sale of Upperhill’s Crowne Plaza Hotel to Kasada. Needless to say, Nairobi’s popularity as a business hub has attracted international investments in this market, among other factors.
Overall, Kenya’s hospitality market has grown to realize improvements in its activities and performance, against all odds. This has consequently boosted its investment confidence. Notably, the sector recorded the second largest expansion in Q2:2023 after the financial services sector.
