GTC Nairobi is a mixed-use development located on Westlands Road, Westlands, a core business district in Nairobi. The building designed to be a landmark comprises a commercial tower, executive residences, a JW Mariott anchored hotel and retail outlets. The project which commenced in Q4 of 2014  has a total buildable area of 270,000sqm and is expected to be completed in Q4 of 2020.

The $400m project is being developed by AVIC International Real Estate Kenya Limited, a subsidiary of Chinese state-owned aerospace and defence firm, Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) International.

AVIC International has always had a strong African presence, hereby allocating two floors of office space to themselves within the development to serve as their African headquarters. Global Trade Centre Nairobi is targeting Fortune 500 companies keen on making Nairobi their African headquarters.

The residential aspect of the development consists of 514 apartments, ranging in size from 82sqm for a 1 bedroom apartment to 332 sqm for a 4 bedroom penthouse. According to the sales advisory team, the pricing for the apartments in the building will be made available closer to the time of completion.

The commercial arm, which will be known as “GTC Tower” will feature 42 floors of office space with a gross floor plate of 1,600 sqm on each floor plate with each divisible into four, (making the size per unit: 400sqm). When completed, the building will stand at 184m high, making it one of the tallest buildings in Kenya. Britam Towers is currently the tallest building in Kenya,  standing at 200m located in the Upper Hill precinct of Nairobi. Furthermore, there will be a 1,037 car park for the office building.

The hotel within the development which will be anchored by JW Marriott will offer 317 guestrooms and 51 serviced apartments and will also feature an 800 sqm Grand Ballroom and 7 conference rooms. The retail aspect will feature 11,592 sqm of retail space and is set to host varying vendors that will cover seven sub-sectors, including a boutique supermarket, bank, catering, children’s playground, home furnishing, healthcare, and daily services, to embodying a “live-work-play” culture.

The project team is made up of a mixture of international and local construction consultants as seen in the case of the architectural works, which saw GMP International Architects from Germany and Triad architects commissioned to design and supervise the construction of the development. Triad Architects, have in the past participated in other major developments in the region such as 4th Ngog Towers an office building made up of 12 office floors, located on 4th Ngong Avenue, Upper Hill.
