Earlier this year, we published a note that highlighted reasons why we believe the Lagos State Data center market is poised for growth. We are glad to see this growth taking place already, with the launch of two data centers within two weeks. The first is the launch of MainOne’s MDIX Lekki II, and the second is Airtel Nigeria’s Tier 3 commercial data center. Below is information on the data centers and the developers.

  • On March 6th, 2022, MainOne launched its second data center; MDIX Lekki II in Ogombo, Lagos State on March 6th, 2022. The launch was graced with the presence of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor, Femi Hamzat.

This launch by MainOne came after the completion of its acquisition by one of the world’s digital infrastructure companies, Equinix.

  • On April 12th, 2022, Airtel Nigeria also launched its Tier 3 commercial data center in Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria. The data center was awarded a high-end Tier 3 ANSI/TIA-942 certification by Enterprise Products Integration, the world’s leading certification body for data centers.

In the launch, Airtel’s Managing Director and CEO noted that this data center will serve as a secure storage system for private organizations, as well as government institutions.

Previously, we noted that one of the reasons  influencing this growth is the current and future demand to be driven by the tech sector growth in the State. With Lagos State having one of the largest number of internet users in Nigeria because of its population, the data center market remains even more promising.

With this in mind, Estate Intel has  profiled location hotspots in Lagos through our data centers dynamic map that will aid potential investors in identifying areas of expansion and available land for potential developments. Click here to find out more and interact with the map.
