John K. Randle Center, shortened J.K Randle Center is a recently renovated development in Lagos Island as part of plans to transform Marina and the Onikan region of Lagos Island into a hub for tourism and recreational activity. The Lagos State Government remodelled the John K (JK) Randle Arcade into a recreation/tourism centre dubbed the JK Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History.

After being demolished in Q3:2016, the Lagos State Government announced the renovation of the centre as well as the development of museums, cultural theatres and heritage centres under the tourism segment of the proposed budget.

Lagos based architects Si.Sa established their concept for the design of the property on the idea of showcasing the Yoruba heritage and culture. In addition to previously existing features such as the swimming pool and sport facilities, the centre features:

  • an Exhibition Centre,

  • a Library,

  • Multi-Purpose Hall,

  • Learning Spaces,

  • Restaurant and Lounges,

  • Private offices

  • Rooftop-greenery area

  • a Pavilion for stage performances.

Construction Kaiser Limited (CKL), who have significant experience in the development of bank branches and industrial schemes, were appointed as the main contractor project in September 2017. Ground breaking happened in Q1:2018 and according to Construction Kaiser Limited, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) collaborated with CKL to use the site as a training ground for over 200 artisans and 5 construction entrepreneurs under the Lagos State Employability Support Project.

The centre is located at the loop of the Onikan roundabout and covers an area of approximately 11,000 square metres.

On January 24th, 2023, the  development was commissioned by the President of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari. This was part of a visit to Lagos State in order to commission the centre alongside other completed projects such as: the Blue line rail way, the Imota Rice Mill, and the Lekki deep sea port.

The development is expected to be opened to the public by the end of Q1:2023.
