The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) is a 170-bed healthcare facility on the Wasa-Takushara Road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). It is developed by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in partnership with King’s College Hospital, London.
The facility is currently under construction and scheduled for completion in June 2025 (End of Q2:2025) according to the AMCE. The main contractor, Cappa and D’Alberto has also delivered notable projects such as Civic Tower, Victoria Island and the Access Bank HQ, Victoria Island, Lagos. Other contractors include;

- Redgrey Associates – Architects.
- L&S Consulting Engineers – Structural Engineer.
- WSP Consultants – MEP Engineer.
- Bovell Ross Project Management – Project Managers.

Key Features
The first phase of the development will feature 170 beds, with a planned capacity expansion to accommodate 500 beds in subsequent phases. According to the AMCE, the facility will integrate academic, residential, hospitality, and retail components, alongside a comprehensive range of medical services, including:

- Diagnostics, in-patient, and out-patient care in oncology,
- Haematology,
- Cardiology, and
- General healthcare services, including trauma and emergency care.
The developer, Afrieximbank highlights that the AMCE will serve as a regional hub for advanced medical care, research, and training upon completion. It will address critical gaps in healthcare delivery across Nigeria and West Africa and aims to reduce Nigeria’s $1 billion annual medical tourism expenditure while attracting patients from across the region.

Beyond its healthcare offerings, the AMCE is set to drive economic and urban development in Apo-Kabusa, Abuja, and its surrounding areas. According to Afrieximbank, the project is expected to create 3,000 jobs, support local pharmaceutical production, and stimulate infrastructure growth, including roads and complementary facilities, further positioning the area for commercial real estate development.
